What are UTM parameters?

UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are tags you add to the end of a URL. When someone clicks that link, these tags are sent to your analytics platform (like Google Analytics or TrackFluenz), allowing you to see exactly where your traffic is coming from.

Better Attribution

Stop seeing "Direct" traffic in your dashboard. Know exactly which specific ad, tweet, or email drove the conversion.

Calculate ROI

By tracking source and medium, you can compare the cost of a campaign against the revenue it generated.

Standard UTM Parameters

  • utm_source: The platform or vendor (e.g. google, facebook, newsletter)
  • utm_medium: The marketing channel (e.g. cpc, social, email)
  • utm_campaign: The specific strategy or promotion (e.g. spring_sale, product_launch)
  • utm_term: Used for paid search to identify the keywords.
  • utm_content: Used to differentiate between similar links on the same page or ad.
